MIndfulness-Based Cognitive
Therapy
Research indicates that mIndfulness-based
practices have been effective in alleviating depression,
anxiety and a wide range of stress related symptoms. How
does mindfulness help?
Mindfulness helps:
see more clearly the patterns of the mind
recognize thoughts controlling our mood
end the escalation of negative or anxious thoughts
live in the present moment
get back in touch with feeling alive
Group for depression:
Drs. Robin Boudette and Pat Vroom will be
offering a Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) group.
MBCT
is an innovative and highly researched program designed to
help people who suffer chronic or repeated bouts of
depression. It combines the clinical application of
mindfulness meditation with the tools of cognitive therapy
and is based on the model developed by Jon Kabat- Zinn.
MBCT teaches us to recognize the connections between
spiraling thought patterns and tendencies toward setting
oppressively high standards for ourselves, overwork,
chronic feelings of “not being good enough,” and losing
touch with life’s enjoyment.
This
rigorous course mixes didactic, experiential, and small
group learning, and includes meditation and yoga in an 8
week 2 hour class format and will include an all day
retreat.
The group is appropriate for those with depression,
anxiety or anyone wishing to improve their mood management
skills.
Facilitators :
Pat Vroom, Ph.D. and Robin Boudette, Ph.D. are both
trained in mindfulness-based treatment. Dr. Vroom
completed a MBSR internship at the University of
Massachusetts Medical School and MBCT training with Zindel
Segal, Ph.D. Dr. Boudette has studied
mindfulness in different traditions. She completed a
yoga teacher training in Integral Yoga and is currently
training at Spirit Rock Meditation Center.
